I am selling a rare matching pair of child's show pattens from circa 1800.
Shoe leather was expensive in earlier times and these strange items were worn in rural areas to save feet from getting wet in marshy areas etc. Pattens were worn to raise one's feet above wet or muddy ground when walking outdoors or when the floors were being mopped inside. Most shoe pattens had an iron ring to raise the shoe up however this pair of shoes has ridges to do this. I have never seen another pair like these.
They are incredibly difficult to find and even more so to have a matching pair complete with leather sides. They are well worn and appear to be the size of a small child's feet (probably aged 6). The leather is intact but the laces could be improved as they are too frayed.
