I know these as Norfolk Deadfall Mousetraps but they were not totally specific to this region. Often homemade, this one in pitch pine with a more unusual wire catch. The mouse enters the tunnel where bait is placed on the trip plate. The weight and movement of the mouse sets the trap off, which is when the block weight falls squashing the victim.
