Antique Shepherd's Leg Crook with unusual decorated back. This crook came in local to us however I have one very similar in my collection of which I bought in Suffolk nearly 30 years ago. I am sure it has been made by the same Blacksmith. It is very unusual to have any kind of decoration added to a working crook. The head is very well made with an elegant finial and a shaped taper to the fixing at the base.
Single swirl design typical of East Anglia region.
The Leg Crook was the everyday walking crook used by the shepherd on a daily basis and designed to catch the sheep in one swift action at the top of the leg.
