Exceptional 19th Cent Gun Barrel Crook

SOLD

Code: 10477

Very fine 19th cent Shepherd's Leg Crook. The sweep of the swirl is typical West country which is where it came from. The narrow shank and the cylindrical fitting is typical of a gun barrel being converted by a blacksmith. There has been exceptional detail gone into making this crook which is more evident in person than maybe comes out on the pics. There is a band of 3 grooves midway on the stem. The taper to the back of the crook head has been faceted into an octagon. It then forms the main loop for catching the sheep's leg. This is marked with a delicate and defined raised notch followed by the sweep of the leg guide ended in an elegant double swirl.
