A Welsh Knitting yarn holder, probably Sycamore. expertly carved from a single piece of wood with oval link chain with swivel link to the centre and a square hollowed out ‘lantern’ pendant . I believe this hung from your belt and the wool was guided through the cage? Estimated age, 100 years old.
