18th/early19th cent brass, single valve Crusie Lamp with wick rest. All original ironwork with Hombard hook.
These early lamps were filled with fish oil or similar. The wick rest lifted the wick or spill up so any hot drips went back into the bowl. The reservoir marker in the centre showed when the lamp needed more oil. these lamps typically hung from a small ledge or beam and were portable.
