Original child's iron hoop and skimmer, in good (unpitted) condition. These are such poignant reminder of a simpler way of life. My grandfather (born 1902) told me stories of playing with his hoop as a child. His sister had a wooden hoop but his iron hoop went faster. On one occasion it went too fast and got stuck down the tram track of Brixton where he grew up. On trying to recover it he got struck by a horse and cart. A doctor happened to be the passenger and scooped him up and took him home. He then placed a large cold knife on the bruise on his head to reduce the swelling, as they obviously didn't have a fridge or freezer being poor. The doctor left giving him half a shilling and my grandfather thought he was rich!
