This is only the third one of these I have seen in 40 years. One of them is in Yarmouth 'Time and Tide' museum said to have been used to get the herrings out of the end of the fishing boat holds. I am sure they were used for all different uses. This one is also unusual having an additional leather hood. These spades were a lot of work to make and have ergonomically curved and shaped handles. Superb talking point for a barn wall or collector.
