19th cent East Anglian Mill Bills for dressing mill stones. We have two available and both are in well used condition, have long original oak handle (Thrift) and the original pick with fixings.
It is said that the mill stones of a working windmill needed 'dressing' every 6 to 8 days in it's heyday.
This was a skilled process as the stones had to run evenly with no high or low spots.
The handle is known as the Thrift and the pick, a 'Bill'.
The Bill was a specially hard tempered piece of steel to be able to make the cuts.
