This is a good, 19th century pocket candle lantern in brass. It has a sprung-loaded candle holder and a rotating (curfew) front screen. The lid flips up to allow the smoke to escape. On the back are folding wire handles and a clip so it could be clipped onto the wall etc. Small hand, pocket lanterns such as these were used on horse and carriage journeys including the advent of trains.
